THE PARIS NEWS, Thu., Dec. 25, 1997, p. 4B: 'Johnny Ray Bankhead, 73, of Paris, died Tuesday, Dec. 23, 1997, in St. Joseph's Hospital and Health Center. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in Fry-Gibbs Funeral Chapel with Father Joseph Acton and Dennis Lee officiating. Burial will follow in the Restland Cemetery in Cunningham. The family will receive friends from 8-9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Bankhead was born Nov. 16, 1924, in Cunningham, a son of Johnny B. and Ruby Carmon Phillips Bankhead. He was a retired gunnery sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps, having served in World War II and Korean Conflict. He was a member of the San Diego Masonic Lodge and the VFW of Paris. He is survived by four children, Murray Michael Bankhead of San Diego, CA., Brian Dirk Bankhead of Springhill, LA, Johnene Rene' Bankhead of Paris and Jonnie Bankhead of Paris; lifelong companion, Jennie Raquot of Paris; five grandchildren, Blair Elizabeth Bankhead, Garrett Michael Bankhead, Joshua Anthony Grieshaber and Ashley Rene' Grieshaber, all of San Diego, and Trisha Beth Bankhead of Springhill; three sisters, Ruby Fay Mason of Dallas, Betty Kennedy of Paris and Margie Lee of Paris; and a brother, J. B. Bankhead of Paris. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Murray Bankhead. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society of the American Lung Association.'
