Mrs. George Washington Thompson received a Texas Confederate Pension #45575 in Lamar County for his service in the Confederate Army. An abstract of the pension shows: applied 9 Apr 1929, approved 30 Apr 1929. He died 12 Jan 1913 in Red River Co., TX. They married 8 Jan 1867 in Red River Co., TX. Her age was 82 1/2 years at the time of application. She was born 16 Sep 1846, 3 miles west of Clarksville, Red River Co., TX. She has resided in Texas all her life. She has resided in Deport, Lamar Co., TX for 16 years. He served in Co. B, 9th Texas Infantry. 'He was a commissioned 2nd Lieutenant. He served the last 2 years in place of his Capt. Kennedy who was seriously wounded.' J. B. Griffin and W. L. Baughn, Lamar Co., TX, 15 Apr 1929 deposed they knew her. War Dept. reply shows he enlisted on 9 Oct 1861 at Clarksville, TX. Elected 2nd Lt., 9 Oct 1861. Promoted 1st Lt., 20 Apr 1862. Muster Roll of 5 Apr 1864 shows present commanding company. Surrendered by Lt. Gen. R. Taylor, date not shown, and paroled at Meridian, MS, 9 May 1865 as 1st Lt. Mortuary Warrant in file shows she died 2 Jul 1935 in Deport, Lamar Co., TX at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J. H. Moore. Her son W. H. Thompson, of Deport, TX signed request for mortuary payment. J. M. Grant was the undertaker. Stephen H. Grant deposed she died of chronic nephritis.
