From an unnamed and undated article located in the Lamar County Genealogical Society Library, in the Taylor Collection, Box T: 'Commerce - Walter Turman, 84, of Commerce died Friday, Sep. 23, at McCuistion Medical Center. Services were held Sunday, Sep. 25, at the First Baptist Church in Commerce with the Rev. Stan Alcorn officiating. Graveside services and burial were Monday, Sep. 26, at Evergreen Cemetery in Paris by Pemberton Funeral Home of Commerce. Mr. Turman was born in Lamar County on Oct. 2, 1903. He was a retired teacher. His last teaching job was at Beaumont Junior College where he taught for many years. He was a son of Richard and Zora Nicholson Turman. He married Johnnie Nadine Myrick on June 11, 1928. She died Aug. 18, 1987. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Commerce. Surviving are a sister, Claira B. Bailey of Edinburg; one uncle, Lloyd Nicholson of Paris; one aunt, Mandy Nicholson of Longview; a brother-in-law, Ed Myrick of Commerce; and two nephews, John Myrick of San Francisco, CA, and Lewis Myrick of Baltimore, Md.'
