THE PARIS NEWS, Thursday, April 3, 1958, p. 14: 'S. L. Bedford, 81, whose home was at 1274 Clarksville St., died in a hospital here Wednesday about 1;25 p.m. He had been in a convalescent home here about two weeks before entering the hospital. Longtime general agent here for the Frisco railroad, Mr. Bedford was for many years a book store owner and operator, and had been an official of the old American National Bank. Funeral services, Friday at 2 p.m. will be held in Fry-Gibbs chapel conducted by the Rev. John Shuler of First Methodist Church where Mr. Bedford was a member. Interment will be made in Evergreen Cemetery by the side of his wife, the former Miss Lottie Russell. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. O. W. Ludwick, Fort Worth, and a son, Sam L. Bedford, Jr.; 13 other descendants, and two sisters, Mrs. J. R. Crisp, and Miss Ruth Bedford, both of Bentonville, Ark. Son of the late Dr. G. W. and Mary (Long) Bedford, Sam L. Bedford was born in Paris, November 4, 1876. He attended Paris public schools and a business college here. He was first a partner with H. L. Campbell in a bookstore on the north side of the Plaza, and later, its owner, the business, afterward acquired by the Alexanders, being the forerunner of the present Cawthon's store. He held various positions including the presidency of the American National Bank here many years, and became general agent for the St. Louis and San Francisco Railroad Company. He had been a steward in First Methodist Church here, and of the Evergreen and Old Cemetery associations. He also had been a director of the Paris Building & Loan Company, which preceded the First Federal Savings & Loan Association here.'
