LAMAR COUNTY ECHO, MAY 1978: "Wasson Uzzell, 82, of 628 East Cherry, died Wednesday, May 24, 1978, in a local hospital. Funeral services were held Friday in the Leverett-Steele-Thomas Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. James H. Semple officiating. Interment was made in Evergreen Cemetery with Masonic graveside rites. Mr. Uzzell was born March 9, 1896, in Grimes County, the son of Drew Uzzell and Estelle Wasson Uzzell. He married Neva Taylor on January 26, 1919, in Calhoun County and was a member of the First Baptist Church and a U.S. Army veteran of World War I. He was a member and past presiding officer of these Masonic bodies: Paris Masonic Lodge 27, Lafayette Chapter No. 48, Lafayette Council No. 34, Paris Commandery No. 9 and Order of the Eastern Star No. 5. He was also a member of the Scottish Rite bodies in Dallas and of the Hella Shrine Temple. Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Mrs. Margaret Kerrick of Owensboro, Kentucky, Mrs. Drunell Summers,of Vivian, Louisiana, and Mrs. Georgianna Shipman of Paris; one brother, Douglas Uzzell of Hempstead; and seven grandchildren. Pall bearers were Leonard Meadlin, S. P. Gibbons, J. C. Hightower, Clyde Sission, L. C. Nowell, Glenn Edwards and Roy Gunter."
