THE PARIS NEWS Wed., Sep. 8, 1993, p. 12A, Police report: "A 69 year-old Paris man died following a one-car accident late Tuesday norning. A 1985 Chevrolet Citation driven by William Thomas Utz struck a tree in the 3100 block of Bonham just after 11:30 a.m. today. Utz either fell asleep at the wheel or had a heart attack, according to Paris Police Sgt. Bob Hundley. Utz was returning home from the Veterans Adminstration Hospital in Bonham where he had been discussing possible heart surgery, Hundley said. A bottle of heart medication was found in Utz’s car. An autopsy is being conducted, Hundley said, to determine the exact cause of death. The Citation was traveling east on Bonham Street and traveled about 60 feet off the roadway before colliding with an Oak tree about three feet in diameter, Hundley said. There were no skid marks left on the pavement."
THE PARIS NEWS, Thursday, Sep. 9, 1993, p. 14A: "William Thomas Utz, 70, 1954 Colbertson, died Tuesday, Sep. 7, at 11:55 a.m. at McCuistion Regional Medical Center. Fry and Gibbs Funeral Home will conduct graveside services at 2 p.m. Friday, Sep. 10, in Evergreen Cemetery with the Rev. Tom Lane officiating. The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home and be at the home of Carolyn Smith, 729-10th NE at other times. Mr. Utz was born Nov. 11, 1922, in Lamar County, a son of John William and Rosa Lee Stone Utz. He attended schools in Lamar County and Commercial College in Paris. He was a veteran of World War II and was a member of First Baptist Church. He had been a surveyor with the U.S. Geological Service before becoming a roofer. Surviving are several nieces and nephews, including Carolyn Smith and Shirley Scott, both of Paris; Wanda Fleming of Quinlan and several others in the Brookston area as well as several great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Louis F. Utz, Nov. 9, 1984."
A military marker inscribed, "Pvt US Army - World War II."
