Notes
THE PARIS MORNING NEWS, Sunday, July 11, 1920, p. 1: “SUDDEN DEATH OF J. E. TYLER FROM HEART FAILURE. John E. Tyler, who was well know among the older residents of Paris died at 4:15 o’clock yesterday morning at his home on Grand avenue, after a brief illness, the immediate cause of his death being heart failure. When he returned home Thursday night he complained of his throat being sore and of feeling bad all over. He was sick all night and rested very little. His wife stated that he was sick all day Friday, but that he was relieved of pain in the evening and rested well for awhile after supper. About 4 o’clock yesterday morning he got up to go to the bathroom and was assisted by his wife and Rev. Mr. Garmon, the pastor of the Congregational church, who was sitting up with him. They assisted him from the bathroom back to bed. He sat on the side of the bed for a minute and began all at once to sink. Mr. Garmon tried to administer words of encouragement and to keep him from giving up, but almost before he could be straightened out in bed he expired. Mr. Tyler would have been sixty-five years old next Monday. He was born in Henry, Ill., and went from there to Kansas City, in his youth. He came to Texas thirty-five years ago and after stopping there a short wile came to Paris to work for W. F. Walker’s livery and transfer business. Since then he had lived continuously in Paris and was in the same line of business until a year or two ago. He was a well informed man, who did a good deal of reading when not at work, and on account of his pleasing address and obliging disposition he had a great many friends. He married Mrs. Lillian Adams of Kansas thirteen years ago, and is survived by her and two stepsons, Wirt Adams, with the United States army at Douglas Ariz. and Ross Adams of Paris. The funeral will be held at the residence on Grand Avenue at 5 o’clock this afternoon, Rev. Mr. Garmon officiating. Interment will be at Evergreen cemetery.”
