THE LAMAR COUNTY ECHO, April 1976: "Mrs. Les E. Turner, 76, of Powderly, Rt. 1, died Thursday, April 15, 1976, in a Paris Hospital. Funeral services were held Saturday in the Fry and Gibbs Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Johnny King, the Rev. Jerry Moore, and the Rev. Benny Rhodes officiating. Interment was made in Red Hill Cemetery. Mabel Alverson Turner was born near Seattle, Washington on Dec 2, 1899, daughter of Floyd Alverson and Bessie Carrol Alverson. When she was young, her family moved to Corsicana, where she attended public schools. She and Les E. Turner were married in the Bounds community on July 24, 1924. She was a member of the Bounds Baptist church and the ladies Adult Sunday School class. Survivors include her husband; one daughter, Mrs. C. R. Wharton of Lubbock; three grandchildren, Ronnie Wharton of Post, Miss Ann Wharton of Dallas and Mrs. Peggy Stalter of Lubbock; three great-grandchildren; one sister, Miss Jessie Alverson of Washington, D. C.; and one brother, Frank Turner, Tyler." Transcribed by Mary J. Tallant.
