From the record journal of Meadowbrook Cemetery; 'Pete', son of Joe Monroe and Minnie Lou Darling Townsend. Born in Durant, OK., died in Lamar County. LAMAR COUNTY ECHO, 19 Mar 1987. 'H.A. (Pete) Townsend, 210-28th NW, died at St. Joseph's Hospital at 12:55 p.m. Monday, 16 Mar 1987. Services were held Wednesday, 18 Mar, at Immanuel Baptist Church with the Rev. Randall Scott officiating. Fry and Gibbs Funeral Home made burial in Meadowbrook Cemetery. Mr. Townsend was born 24 Apr 1908, in Durant, Okla., a son of Joe Monroe Townsend and Minnie Lou Darling Townsend. He attended school in Honey Grove and married Bessie Dee Gage on 7 Nov 1928. He was a longtime employee of the Lamar Creamery, working there from 1936 until 1963. He later worked for Campbell Soup, retiring in 1973. He was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church and its Adult Six Sunday School Class, whose members served as honorary pallbearers. Surviving are his wife; one daughter, Robbie Jo Weston of Mesquite; two sons, Charles A. Townsend of Mesquite and Robert L. Townsend of Dallas; six grandchildren; six great grandchildren; three sisters, Lillie Dale Dye of Paris, Louise Elem of Paris and Rosalie Wilson of Paris; and one brother, Jack Townsend of Paris.'
