LAMAR COUNTY ECHO, February 1985: "Mrs. Leslie (Eva) Townsend, 3055 Clarksville, 100, died Friday , Feb. 15, at 11:15 p. m. at Canterbury Villa Nursing Home. Services were Monday, Feb. 18, at Fry and Gibbs Funeral Home with Dr. A. B. White officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery. Mrs. Townsend was born Feb. 7, 1885, in Lebanon, Tenn., a daughter of John T. Terrell and Elizabeth Jane Geers Terrell. She came to Texas as a child and lived in the Sylvan community until she married Leslie Townsend on May 28, 1909. She had lived in Paris since her marriage, Mr. Townsend died Dec. 1, 1941. She was the oldest living member of the First Baptist Church in Paris where she was active many years. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Roger (Lois) Evans of Paris, Mrs. Alvis (Flora) Mills of Dallas and Mrs. Jim (Wilma) Higgins of Dallas; a brother-in-law, Claude Townsend of Denison; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and one great grandchild; four nieces, Mrs. Chester (Dorothy) Upchurch of Paris, Mrs. Charles (Mary) Sherrard, of Denison, Mrs. Dorothy Shepherd of Carson City, Nev. and Mrs. V. C. Riley of Odessa."
