THE PARIS NEWS, Tuesday, May 21, 1968, p. 10: “Mrs. Johnny Towers, 70, of 1127 E. Grove St., a retired laundry room worker at McCustion Hospital, died there of illness Monday at 12:20 p.m. She was a member of Belmont Baptist Church. The funeral was set for 4 p.m. Tuesday at Gene Roden & Sons chapel, with burial in Evergreen Cemetery. The former Bettie Hargroves, daughter of Jim and Julia (Holt) Hargroves, Mrs. Towers was born in Minter community, Aug. 16, 1897, and was married to Mr. Towers, Aug. 9, 1914. He died Nov. 30, 1959. Surviving are a son, Jesse Lee Towers, Paris; nine other descendants; a brother and two sisters: Robert W. Hargroves, Fresno, Calif.; and Mrs. Dovie Freeman, Pomona, Calif.”
