Notes

THE PARIS MORNING NEWS, Thursday, November 18, 1920, p. 5: “DEATH OF MRS. THOMPSON ON CAMPBELL STREET. Mrs. Minnie Thompson, the wife of M. D. L. Thompson, died at 7:30 o’clock last night at the family residence on West Campbell street. She was Miss Minnie Gallaher before her marriage and is survived by her husband and four children, the youngest of whom is an infant ten days old. The burial will be at Evergreen cemetery, but arrangements for the funeral will not be definitely made until a brother, who lives in Arkansas, can be heard from.”

Online family information from Iva Hargroves found in 2023 states that Minerva Cornelia 'Minnie' Golleher married Marcus De Lafayette Thompson in Paris, Texas on March 28, 1912, according to the record she obtained from the Lamar County Clerk's Office. Marcus is buried in the same cemetery in Paris without a grave marker in Section 31-34-02. Minnie was survived by 4 children (in order of birth) Wesley Thompson, Lorene Thompson Christopher, Emily Ruth Thompson Brown and Pearl Marie Thompson Brown. Iva's mother was born only days before her death. All the children were born in Paris, Lamar County, Texas. It was "told" in the family that Minnie (Minerva Cornelia) was a full blood Cherokee Indian but she has not found any firm records to prove that. She has found US Census records that indicate, what she believes to be Minnie, of her birth being in Lonoke, Arkansas. She was told by a cousin that "they" were adopted. The death notice in the Paris News of Nov. 18, 1920 states "arrangements pending arrival of a brother from Arkansas." It is believed the brother to be John Franklin Golleher. No obituary has been found. It seems Minnie disappears from Lonoke and reappears in Paris, Texas in the Census in 1920.
