From the burial records of J.W. Milligan, Pastor of Chicota Baptist Church.

LAMAR COUNTY INQUESTS, May 2, 1916 to December 1938, Transcribed by Betsy Mills: Lamar County Texas, Precinct One, Justice of the Peace, Inquest Record Book Number 1, Record 57; Henry Thompson, about 5 - 7 tall, age 37, weight about 135 lbs, brown hair. Date of death: Sep 8, 1934. Where died: Brooks Wagon Yd. Date of inquest: Sep 8, 1934, 1:30 P.M. Where held: Blank. Nature of information and by whom given: Mrs. Thompson wife of deceased gave age as to cause of death she knew nothing was seemingly all right when they came to town. Finding by the Justice: On Saturday morning Sep 8 1934, I was called by Sheriff Shelton to go with him to Brooks Wagon Yard as it had been reported to him a man had died. This man proved to be Henry Thompson. No one seemed to know the exact time of his death, but from physical condition and the statement made by a few that were in the wagon yd, it is my opinion he died near 12 noon Sep 8 1934. After viewing the body, it is my opinion the deceased came to his death from due to natural causes. A. W. Sheffield, Justice Peace, Precinct No. 1, Lamar County, Texas.
