THE PARIS NEWS, 5 Jan 1959. 'Funeral of Mrs. John Thompson, 54, lifetime resident of Direct, was set Monday at 2:30 p.m. at Fry-Gibbs chapel here, conducted by the Rev. J.L. Wideman and the Rev. James Shields, pastor of Direct Baptist Church, where Mrs. Thompson was a member. Interment was arranged in Evergreen Cemetery, pallbearers being Heston Williamson, Paris; Lester Williamson, Atoka, Okla.; Roy Smith, Elbert Moore, Clea Stephens and Kenny Burton, all of Direct. Mrs. Thompson, who died Friday at 6:15 p.m. in a Paris hospital after two years ill health, was the former Miss Ethel Lula Brown, daughter of M.L (Whit) Brown and his late wife, who was Miss Lucy Jane Rankin. Mrs. Thompson was born at Direct, 24 Dec 1904, attending school there where she later taught two years, after studying at East Texas State College, Commerce. Mr. Thompson, to whom she was married 13 Sep 1925, survives, besides her father and these children: Mrs. O.M. Gresham, Mrs. Gerald Stewart and Lloyd Thompson, Dallas, and Mrs. Donald Helm, Direct; six grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Redus Ford, Dallas, and Mrs. Lee Stephens and a brother, M.L. Brown, Jr., both of Direct.' Married John L. Thompson.
