THE LAMAR COUNTY ECHO, 7 Sep 1989: 'Joe Bob Thomas, 65, of Sulphur, La. died there at 8 p.m. Friday, 1 Sep 1989. Services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, 5 Sep, at Fry and Gibbs Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Leonard Callicoate of Lane, Okla., officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery. Mr. Thomas was a son of Jim and Ermel Fry Thomas. He was born in Paris. He attended Brady schools and served as a naval pilot in World War II. He later was a pilot for Riddle Airlines in Jacksonville, Fla., retiring 15 years ago. Surviving are three daughters, Patti McCullough, Donna Askew and Teresa Oglesby of Jacksonville, Fla.; three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Katherine Alene Hartman, in 1983.'
Buried next to Ermel Fry Thomas. Tombstone is inscribed, 'US Navy WWII.'
