THE PARIS NEWS-Feb. 26,1982: Mrs. W. C. (Carrie) Thomas, 1860 E. Polk, died at 12:30 a.m.
Friday, Feb. 26, in McCuistion Regional Medical Center. Funeral services are scheduled for 4 p.m. Saturday at Fry & Gibbs Funeral Home Chapel. Services will be conducted by Dr.
Raymond A. Armonstrong of the First Christian Church. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Friday at Fry & Gibbs Funeral Home. Mrs. Thomas was born May 19, 1905, in Bivins in Cass County. She was a daughter of Reuben Edward McElyea and Abbie Hill McElyea. She attended public school in Sylvan and Blossom and married William Comer Thomas on Nov.
15, 1923. He preceded her in death on Nov. 10, 1981. They lived in the Jennings and Brookston communities after their marriage until they moved to Paris in 1937. She was a member of First Christian Church and the Loyal Builders Sunday School class of that church. She was an honorary deaconess there. She was also a member of the McCuistion Regional Medical Center Auxiliary. She is survived by one son, William Lewis Thomas, of Lindale; one grandson, William L. Thomas, Jr.
of Katy; one great-grandson, Alexander Thomas, of Katy. She has three sisters, Mrs. O. V. (Birdie) Hayes, Paris; Mrs.
Mamie Miller, Paris and Mrs. Buford (Christina) Burns, Fort Worth and two brothers, Chester McElyea, Paris; H. Grady McElyea, of Como..
Information from Rayburn Hill, Rockwall, TX, 2hills1932@sbcglobal.net, 23 May 2010: Carrie L. McElyea Thomas was born May 19, 1905, in Lamar County. She was a daughter of Rubin Edward (Ed) McElyea and Abbiedale (Abbie) Sovelia Hill McElyea. Based on the place of birth of Ed’s and Abbie’s children, the family apparently moved from Cass County to Lamar County in the early 1900s and moved back to Cass County by the 1910 census. The family moved back to Lamar County soon after the 1910 census and appear to have remained in Lamar County. Her siblings were Birdie Gertrude McElyea, Mamie Leona McElyea, Julius McElyea, Chester McElyea, Grady McElyea, Rubin Edward McElyea, Travis Woodrow McElyea, Hershel McElyea and Christine McElyea.She married William Comer Thomas, son of W. R. Thomas and Virginia Vickers Thomas. November 14, 1923, in Paris, Texas. He was born January 28, 1896, in Alabama. One known child of Carrie and William was William L. Thomas. William Comer Thomas died November 10, 1981, in Paris. She died February 26, 1982, in Paris. They were buried in Evergreen Cemetery in Paris, Texas.
