THE PARIS NEWS, Mon., Jul. 18, 1994, p. 6A: "Deport - Betty Jane (Granny) Thomas, 62, of Deport died Saturday, July 16, in Presbyterian Hospital, Dallas. Services will be held at 5 p.m. Tuesday, July 19, in Deport Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Sam Rice officiating. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery at Deport by Wood Funeral Homes, Deport. Mrs. Thomas was born Jan. 21, 1932, in Clarksville, a daughter of Joe and Dorothy Forshee Rains. She married Kenneth Thomas Nov. 23, 1963, in Clarksville. She was a member of Deport Presbyterian Church and worked at Lamar Notional Bank for a number of years. Surviving are her husband; two daughters, Janie Joyner of Austin and Michelle Thomas of Deport; one granddaughter, Chrissy Joyner of Nacogdoches; one sister, Mrs. Johnny Jamison of Clarksville; her mother, Dorothy Rains of Clarksville; three godchildren, Zachary, Dustin and Hollie Allen of Deport; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Joe Rains, March 4, 1993. The family will receive friends Monday evening at the Kenneth Thomas residence, Highway 271 in Deport. Pallbearers will be John Allen, Deverle Elmore, Raymond Dugger Jr., Murie Burks, N.C. Adcock, Tim Gentry, Bill Baker, and Dale Gray. Honorary bearers will be Fred Skidmore, Rodger Allen, Kenneth Harold Allen, Paul Ray Keys, Melvin Slaton, Mike Rhodes and James Grant."
