Dec. 14, 2014; Valda Mae Burns, 82 of Paris, passed away Friday, Dec. 12, 2014. Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 15, 2014 at Bright-Holland Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mike Fortenberry officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5-6 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 14, 2014. Mrs. Burns was born Aug 26, 1932 in Stamford, TX to William Charles Wood and Minnie Mae Henry Wood. Mrs. Burns was a resident of Paris, where she owned and operated her own businesses for many years. She was known as being a very hard worker and enjoyed the involvement of local politics, greatly. Needless to say, she was very well known in her community. She was preceded in death by her parents: her husband, C.H. "Slim" Burns, whom she married July 31, 1970, building over 28 years of memories before his death in 1998 and four brothers. Survivors include a son, Billy Carlon Burns and wife, Margie of Houston; a daughter, Diana Marshall and husband, Jerry of Tulsa OK; two step-daughters, Karen Ott of Lubbock and Sharon Griffith of Odessa; grandchildren, Jason, Sarah, Carla, Michelle, Melissa, Marcy, Joe, Mason, Morgan and Colby; ten great-grandchildren; one brother, Kenneth Wood and wife Judy of Paris; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of friends. Bright-Holland Funeral Home. On the same stone with Carlon H. Burns.
