THE PARIS NEWS, Friday, July 20, 1934, p. 2: "Veteran Rail Employee Dies. Richard Ivey, 71 years old veteran employee of the Texas and Pacific railway, died after a long illness at his home, 285 South Church street Thursday afternoon afternoon about 3:30 o'clock. The funeral will be held Saturday morning at 9:30 o'clock at Manton-Fry Funeral chapel on Clarksville street conducted by the Rev. E. G. Beckman, minister of First Presbyterian church. Burial will be Evergreen cemetery, and pallbearers will be Louis Williams, Lester Johnson, John Love, Sam Garland, W. F. Stewart of Ennis and Pete Jackson. A number of friends of the family here and at Texarkana including former associates of Mr. Ivey, are named honorary pallbearers. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Ruth Steward Ivey, four sons, John R. and Fred P. Ivey off Texarkana, W. J. Ivey of Dallas and Edgar L. Ivey of Paris, four daughters Mrs. R. G. Nowell of Dallas, Miss Ethel Ivey of Shreveport, La., and Misses Katherine and Daisy Ivey of Paris, beside seven grandchildren. Mr. Ivey son of Thomas and Indiana Ivey, was born in Gibson county, Tenn., March 5, 1863, and came to Texas as a young man. Employed by the Texas and Pacific railroad at Sherman and Whitesboro, he came to Paris 37 years as car inspector. Losing his right leg in an accident in the yards 24 years ago, he continued in the employed of the company watchman on South Church street near his home until his retirement on pension two years ago."
