March 21, 1991; Abbie Denney Irby, 92, 4530 Lamar Ave., died at St. Joseph's Hospital at 7:15 p.m. Wednesday, March 20, 1991. Services will be held at 4 p.m. Friday, March 22, at Fry & Gibbs Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Gaither Day and the Rev. Ray Starnes officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Mrs. Irby was born Sept. 1, 1898 in Shiloh TN, a daughter of George Matlock and Frances Cline Matlock. She married B.P. Denney, Sr. on June 6, 1920. He died Jan 1, 1940. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and its New Era Sunday School Class, the XYZ's and was a member of the McCuistion, Auxiliary. She taught school in Paris and Crandall and was a member of the Retired Teachers Association. Surviving are two sons, B.P. Denney of Paris and Stanton C. Denney, Route 2, Paris; two stepsons, Joe M. Denney, Rt. 6, Paris and Bryan B. Denney of Paris; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Roland W. Denney in 1969 and a step-daughter, Winnie D. Denny in 1984. March 24, 1991; Funeral services for Mrs. Abbie Denney Irby of 4530 Lamar Ave. were conducted Friday, March 22 in Fry & Gibbs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery with the Rev. Gaither Day and the Rev. Ray Starnes officiating. Bearers were David Denney, Paul Denney, Charles Denney, Nathan Denney, Dee McCrary and Chris Albritten. Mrs. Irby died March 20 in St. Joseph’s Hospital and Health Center. Daughter of George & F. Cline Matlock. Married B.P. Denney Sr.
