THE PARIS NEWS, Nov. 24, 2008: "Floyd E. Basham, 84, died Sunday, Nov. 23, 2008, at Hunt Memorial Hospital in Commerce. Bright-Holland Funeral Home has scheduled graveside services for 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 25, at Evergreen Cemetery with the Rev. Ronald Barnett officiating. He was born March 1, 1926, in Pacio, to Charles M. and Maggie Thomas Basham. He served as a medic during World War II, crossing the ocean three times. He married Billie Gean George on Oct. 28, 1944, celebrating their 64 years together this last October at Birchwood Manor Nursing Home in Cooper. For several years he had a dairy and worked for Cooper School System before moving to Paris to work for Oak Farm Dairies. He then operated Basham Exxon and owned and operated, with his son, Basham & Son Grocery. He retired after being an insurance agent for several years. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Odie Basham of Cooper, Luther Basham of Paris, Ralph Basham of Pacio and Cecil Basham of Pacio, and one sister, Vanitta Gentry of Lubbock. Survivors include his wife who lives at Birchwood Manor Nursing Home in Cooper; a son, Billy Richard Basham and wife, Elizabeth, of Paris; two grandchildren, Jacqualyn Dulaney and husband, Terry, of Edmond, Okla., Richard Brent Basham of Reno; five great-grandchildren, Christina and Tiffany Greene of Edmond, Okla., Lane and Christopher Basham of Powderly and Ashton Basham of Paris; one sister, Thelma Meadlin of Fort Bragg, Calif. Casket bearers will be Bobby Moree, Terry Dulaney, Glenn Randle, Brent Basham, Lane Basham and Christopher Basham. The family will be at 770 41st S.W., Paris, during this time.
