THE PARIS NEWS, Apr 20 1971: "Graveside rites in Meadowbrook Cemetery here for R. E. (Gene) Townsend of Dallas, a Bogata native, will be held at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, directed by Fry & Gibbs Funeral Home here. Service in Dallas is set for 11 o'clock that morning at Sparkman-Hillcrest Garland Road Chapel. Mr. Townsend, born at Bogata March 16, 1920, was a son of R. H. and Tommie (Stockton) Townsend. He lied at 10730 Hermosa Drive, Dallas, and was a dock superintendent there for the Dr. Pepper Bottling Company. He died about 11:30 p.m. Monday in St. Paul Hospital, Dallas. Surviving are his wife, Ann; two daughters, Mrs. M. L. Boyd, Houston, and Mrs. David W. Chapin, Mesquite; three grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. C. C. Roland Jr., Rowlett."
