THE PARIS NEWS, September 5, 2011, Pg.5: “A. L. ‘Red’ Butler, 93, of Paris, went to be with his Lord on Saturday Sept. 3, 2011, at Paris Regional Medical Center. Starrett Funeral Home will conduct funeral services at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2011, at The Cowboy Church at Red River Valley Bible Camp, with Wade White officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family is to receive friends for one hour prior to the service at the church. Red was born Nov. 10, 1917, in the Novice community of Lamar County, a son of Soloman Jefferson and Rosa Lee Fargo Butler. He attended Springhill school, then entered the U. S. Army. He served his county during World War II, then returned to his beloved Lamar County. He worked for Lamar Creamery, B&W, as a professional truck driver, then retired from the Maintenance Department of the city of Paris. He was a lifetime member of the VFW, and a faithful member of the Cowboy Church. He will be remembered by many for his work at ticket tables at the entrances of Atwood’s, Hobby Lobby and Brookshire, where he sold raffle tickets for the VFW. His greatest joy was sharing time with his family, who all testify he had a wonderful life. He married Cora Bush on Feb. 3, 1946. She preceded him in death on Sept. 17, 1989. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Jane Broadway, in 2008 He is survived by a daughter, Nancy Baker and husband, Eddie, of Powderly; a sister, Evelyn Pace of Texarkana; a son-in-law, Robert ‘Bobby’ Broadway of Hopewell; three grandchildren, Lynn Broadway, Chris Baker and Lisa Martin; four great-grandchildren, Bradley and Brandon Broadway and Lane and Coralynn Martin; and several nieces and nephews. Named to serve as pallbearers are Delvin Hoskins, Steve Miller, George Olsen Jr., Robert Ogg, Chet Hylyer and John Ropella.”
Birth certificate gives mother’s name as Rossie/Rosie Lee Padgett.
On the same stone with Cora Butler. Also has a military marker inscribed, "TEC 5 US Army - World War II."
