THE PARIS NEWS, Wednesday, August 8, 1956, p. 9: “John Shelby Burnett. John Shelby Burnett, Route 6, died at home at 8:20 p.m. Tuesday. Funeral services will be Thursday at 3 p.m. at Gene Roden and Sons Chapel, with burial in Evergreen Cemetery. Mr. Burnett was born October 25, 1866, in Kentucky, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Reuben Burnett. His wife, the former Vianah Upchurch, died in 1932. He was a member of the Church of Christ. He is survived by one son, N. R. Burnett, Route 6; three daughters, Mrs. V. H. Jumper, Paris, Mrs. Myrtle Jumper, Dallas, and Miss Marie Burnett, Route 6; three brothers, George Burnett, Edna, Kan., Ed Burnett and Dick Burnett, both of Monticello, Ky.; two sisters, Miss Ethel Burnett and Mrs. Diane Denney, both of Oakland, Calif.; 18 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren.”
THE PARIS NEWS, Thursday, August 9, 1956, p. 5: “Burnett Funeral Elmer L’Roy, minister of Lamar Avenue Church of Christ, was to conduct last rites for John Shelvy Burnett this afternoon at 3 o’clock at Gene Roden and Sons Chapel, burial to be made in Evergreen Cemetery. Mr. Burnett died at his home, Route 6, Tuesday at 8 p. m. Pallbearers were named as Aubrey Hinson, Lloyd Barnett, Grover Darnell, Boyce Reed, Jack Rosson, Willie Lane, Geron Nowell and V. V. Holcomb.”
