THE PARIS NEWS, Tuesday, December 14, 1937, p. 3: “J. W. BURKS. Death of J. W. Burks, 76, occurred Monday afternoon at his home, 388 West Kaufman street, where he had been ill. The Rev. P. F. Herndon will conduct the funeral service Wednesday afternoon at 2 o’clock at Emberson-Brown-Roden funeral chapel, and burial will be made at Evergreen cemetery. Harry Walker, Sid Parrot, J. D. Cheatham, Clyde Crumley, Roy Hodges and E. F. Harrell will be pallbearers. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Anna Burks, four children, Mrs. Mildred Duke, Houston; Mrs. Roy L. Beard, St. Louis; Claude and Ernest Burks of Paris; a brother, Bob Burks of Broadway and a sister, Mrs. George Gantt of Klondike.”
