THE LAMAR COUNTY ECHO, undated: “Oscar J. Brown, 84, of Route 2, Sumner, died Saturday, March 24, 1979 in a local hospital. Funeral services were held Monday, March 26, in the Fry and Gibbs Funeral Home Chapel, with Raymond Copening officiating. Burial was in the Georgia Cemetery in the Georgia Community. Mr. Brown was born March 25, 1894, in Fannin County, a son of William E. and Florence Hunt Brown. He was a retired farmer and a veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Church of Christ. He married Effie Brackeen in 1918, and she died December 17, 1977. Survivors include two brothers, Finnis E. Brown of Bowie, Arizona and Calvin Brown of Fitztown, Oklahoma, and several nieces and nephews. A daughter, Vella Jean Brown, preceded him in death in August 1977. Pallbearers were Q. B. Stephens, Lester Crutchfield, Gleen Dale Stephens, Carey Parsons, Larry Cope, and Cleo Holmes.” Mary J. Tallant.
