THE PARIS NEWS, 9 Jan 1973. 'M.L. Brown, a native of the Direct community, who lived at Rt. 6, Clarksville died at 8 a.m. Monday in the veteran's hospital in Dallas. He had been in ill health for the past year. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Fry and Gibbs Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. J.L. Wideman and the Rev. Jerry Moore officiating. Interment will be in Pyles Cemetery. Mr. Brown was born 4 Nov 1924, in Direct, son of M.L. Brown Sr. and Lucy Rankin Brown. He attended schools in Direct and graduated from Direct High School. He married the former Miss Jacqueline Crawford of Direct on 3 Feb 1943 and the couple operated a store in that community for six years. They moved to Clarksville from Direct in 1961. A veteran of World War II, Mr. Brown was a member of the Baptist church and of the Oddfellows Lodge in Clarksville. He had been employed as a welder at Babcock and Wilcox for the past 19 years. Survivors include his wife; a son, Donnie Brown of Paris; two grandsons, Dean and Shane Brown, both of Paris; two sisters, Mrs. Lucille Ford of Farmingdale, N.Y. and Mrs. Lee Stephens of Direct and several nieces and nephews.' Tombstone is inscribed 'PFC US Army WW II.'
