THE LAMAR COUNTY ECHO, undated: “Mrs. Charles Benton Broadway, 86, of Leisure Lodge Nursing Home, formerly of Blossom, died Friday, December 23, 1977, in a local hospital. Funeral services were held Saturday in the Gene Roden’s Sons Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Harley Stripland officiating. Interment was made in the Knights of Honor Cemetery at Blossom. Ada Rhodes Broadway was born in Rusk County, Texas, on February 17, 1891, daughter of Alex Rhodes and Nancy Wright Rhodes. She married Charles Benton Broadway in Lamar County in 1906. He preceded her in death on May 2, 1966. She was a member of the Primitive Baptist Church. Survivors include three daughters, Mrs J.W. (Nina Lou) Rater of Paris, and Mrs. A.M. (Edna Ada) Covington and Miss Mable Frances Broadway, both of Shreveport, Louisiana; two sons, Edmond Arthur Broadway of Arlington and David Charles Broadway; three sisters, Mrs. Gertie McGinnis of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Mrs. Viola Turrentine and Mrs. J.S. (Dora) Berry both of Shreveport, Louisiana, a brother, Lewis Rhodes, of Hugo; a daughter-in-law, Mrs Naomi Broadway of Paris; 15 grandchildren, and 36 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were Kenneth Broadway, Jake Broadway, Alvis Broadway, Robert Broadway, Edgar Rater and George Rater.” Submitted by Mary J. Tallant.
