From an undated-unnamed newspaper obituary clipping from 'The Paris Scrapbook' donated by Skipper Steely; 'Thomas J. Broad died at his home on Clarksville street this morning at 2 o'clock. He had been ill but a day or two. When the Advocate made mention of Mr. Broad's illness yesterday afternoon, this was the first that was known by most of his friends of the serious illness of Mr. Broad. Monday afternoon Mr. Broad was up town. He was stricken with a chill and went home. Yesterday afternoon he was attacked with a hemorrhage. His physician stated to the Advocate at press hour that he did not think Mr. Broad could recover. Mr. Broad was 42 years old and was a son of the late John Broad of this city. He owned considerable property in Paris and with his brother, C. I. Broad as a partner had planned the construction of the Broad Hotel and other substantial improvements for Paris. He had recently completed the Broad office building opposite the courthouse. Fifteen years ago he was married to Miss Kathryn McMurry, daughter of Captain and Mrs. J. F. McMurry. Besides his wife he is survived by two children, a boy and a girl, John and Dorothy, his mother, Mrs. F. S. Linch, of this city, one sister, Mrs. N. H. Ragland, of this city and two brothers, C. I. Broad, of this city and John Broad, of Fort Worth. The funeral will be held from the Broad residence on Clarksville street at 10 o'clock tomorrow morning, conducted by Rev. J. P. Robertson, of the First Presbyterian church.'
