THE LAMAR COUNTY ECHO, 21 Aug 1986: "Edward W. (Ed) Bretz, 2021 Simpson, retired Sears executive, died at 1:55 p.m. Saturday, 16 Aug 1986, at Cherry Street Annex. Funeral services were held Monday, 18 Aug, in Gene Roden’s Sons Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery. Mr. Bretz was born on 9 May 1907, in New York City, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Bretz. He attended New York University and Carver College in Oklahoma City, Okla., where he earned his chiropractor’s license. He worked for Sears 28 years. He was assistant manager of the Sears store here for about four years, and was transferred to Dallas where he was regional manager for inventory control for about four years. He was named manager of the Sears store in Paris in 1950 and retired from there in May 1962. He began working for Sears in Oklahoma City. He was active in the Chamber of Commerce, Lions Club, and United Fund. He was given the 1963-64 campaign award by the United Fund, and was a past director and division chairman for the organization. He is a past chairman of the NeTseO Trails Council Board. He was awarded the Outstanding Boss Award in 1961 by the Paris Jaycees. He is a past president and board member of the Knife and Fork Club of Paris. He was one of the organizers and a charter member of the Lamar County Humane Association. He was a member of the Lamar Avenue Church of Christ, where he was a member of Hubert Roach’s Sunday school class. Surviving are his wife, Audrey; one son, Don Walter Bretz of Muskogee, Okla.; two sisters, Ida Rosendale of Bennington, N.Y. and Martha Bueltman of Long Island, N.Y.; one grandson, Wade Walter Bretz of Muskogee, Okla."
