THE PARIS NEWS, Friday, May 8, 1936, p. 7: “MRS. MARY E. BREM DIES ON THURSDAY. Funeral At 5 P. M. Friday For Long Time Resident of Paris. Mrs. Mary Ella Brem, resident of Paris since 1873, died at 2:40 o’clock Thursday afternoon at her home, 294 East Washington street after an illness. The funeral was set for 5 o’clock Friday afternoon at Manton-Fry funeral home, conducted by the Rev. Norman R. Alter, Episcopal rector, with interment at Evergreen cemetery. Rafe Biard, Eddie Jenkins, E. M. Rogers, M. F. Wite, John Grimes and W. L. Beard being named pallbearers. Born in Georgia, February 17, 1857, Mrs. Brem who was Mary Ella Pike came to Texas at the age of 16, and had lived here ever since. She was married to the late Albert Brem and is survived by four children, Hugh and Misses Libbie and Inez Brem and Mrs. Robert Hafner, all of Paris and four grandchildren. She was a niece of A. S. Gantt of San Antonio.”
