THE PARIS NEWS, July 10, 1953: "Hugh R. Brem, 242 - 3rd NW, longtime Texas Power & Light Company Diesel engineer, died Friday at 8:20 a.m. at St. Joseph's Hospital. He had been ill the past four years. The funeral will be held Saturday at 4:30 p.m. at Gene Roden & Sons chapel, and interment will be made in Evergreen Cemetery. The Rev. C. C. Klingman of Honey Grove, Christian Church pastor, will officiate, assisted by the Rev. James Riley of First Baptist Church here. Pallbearers will be J. B. Caldwell, Floyd Bozeman, H. O. Green of McKinney, J. L. Simmons, Jack Oliver and W. P. Lane. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Woodmen of the World and Texas Power & Light Company employees. Surviving are Mrs. Brem, the former Miss Hattie May Epperson, whom Mr. Brem married 1909 [sic]; one son, James Albert Brem, and three sisters, Mrs. Robert Hafner, Miss Inez Brem and Miss Libbie Brem, all of Paris, besides four grandchildren. Mr. Brem was born in Paris, son of the late James Albert Brem and Mary Ella (Pike) Brem. He owned and operated the old Paris Fish Market and was in the grocery business also, before taking employment with Texas Power & Light Company, in 1917. In 1922, the company sent him to Auburn, N. Y., for special work, and in 1927, he was transferred to Odessa, where he and his family lived some time. He later returned to Paris, continuing with the company until his health failed. He had been active in First Christian Church and in the Woodmen of the World and Knights of Pythias. He also had belonged to a local company of the Texas State Militia a number of years ago."
