THE PARIS NEWS, Sunday, March 12, 1961, p. 2: “JOHN W. BROWNER. John W. Brawner, retired farmer of Route 1, Paris, died at 8:20 p.m. Saturday at Lamar Medical Center where he had been admitted shortly before; Brawner, 71, was the son of the late J. F. Brawner and Laura Wilburn Brawner. Funeral arrangements are pending at Gene Roden & Sons Funeral Home.”

THE PARIS NEWS, Monday, March 13, 1961, p. 2: “BREWER FUNERAL [sic]. Funeral service for John W. ‘Bill’ Brawner, retired farmer of Paris, Rt. 1, will be conducted Tuesday at 10 a.m., at Gene Roden and Sons Chapel by the Rev. Edwin Davis, Baptist minister, and burial made in Restland Cemetery at Roxton. Mr. Brawner, who died in a hospital here Saturday night, was born in Tennessee, March 17, 1859, son of J. F. and Laura (Wilburn) Brawner. He leaves his wife, the former Miss Ollie M. Durham; these children: Leslie Brawner and Mrs. Adeline Negri, Denver, Colo.; Madison Brawner and J. W. Brawner, both of Fort Worth, and Mrs. Aileen Deselms, Peru, Ind.; nine grandchildren; a brother, Jess Brawner, Lubbock; two sisters, Mrs. Jack W. Osteen, Fort Worth and Mrs. Mary Hobbs, Paris, Rt. 1.”

THE PARIS NEWS, Tuesday, March 14, 1961, p. 2: “Brawner Service Burial rites for John W. ‘Bill’ Brawner, nearly 72, retired farmer of Paris, Rt. 1, who died Saturday night, was held Tuesday morning at Gene Roden & Sons chapel. Interment was made in Restland Cemetery at Roxton, and bearers were Jim Brawner, Pate Stotts, Thomas Dunham, Johnnie Brawner, Stanley Brawner, Lloyd Brawner Ed Hampton and Lloyd Blaine.”
