From an undated & no publisher obituary kept by Bennie Mae Brothers, of Powderly: "Maude Gibbs Brandon, 59, expired at a local hospital Dec. 26th at 3:15, after a month of serious illness. Services today, Friday at 10:30 a.m. at the Church of Christ ... with Leon Locke & Thomas D. Compton. She was co-owner of the Brandon-Huddle Florist Shop & was born in Gordonville, MO., to John M. Gibbs. Moved with her parents to Texas when she was a small child & lived in Paris, where she married to James N. Brandon. They moved to Wharton about 10 years ago. She was a faithful member of the Church of Christ & her hobby of flower cultivation led to the establishment of the florist business with her daughter, Mrs. Adrian Huddle.
