THE PARIS NEWS, Tuesday, December 15, 1936, p. 5: “GEORGE M. BOWEN OF ROXTON DIES. Funeral Service Wednesday Afternoon For Long-Time Resident. George M. Bowen of Roxton died at 10 o’clock Tuesday morning at the Sanitarium of Paris. The funeral service will be held at 3 o’clock Wednesday afternoon at the residence, Manton-Fry funeral home here having charge, the Rev. J. F. Blackburn, Methodist pastor, and the Rev. F. D. Coppin of the Baptist church, having charge. Burial will be at the Roxton cemetery. Surviving are his wife, four sons and four daughters, Albert and Tom Bowen of Long Beach, Calif.; Mrs. Adele Gossett of Wilmington, Mrs. Joe Bachelor of Haynesville, La., Mrs. Mabel Chancellor of Paris, and Bob, Alice and Shelton Bowden of Roxton. He was born in Crockett county, Tenn., in 1874 and came to Texas early in life, settling in Roxton. He was married there in 1901 to Miss Hayden Landers.”
