THE PARIS NEWS, November 12, 1979, Pg. 2: “Mrs. Perry (Gwladys) Booth of 3040 Abbott Lane died at 1:45 a.m. Sunday in St. Joseph’s Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Fry and Gibbs Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Gary Ragan officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will be at the residence at 3040 Abbott Lane. Mrs. Booth was born Feb. 25, 1902 in Paris, the daughter of William Lewis and Lettie Pearl (Mallory) Jones. He parents were early Paris settlers, and her husband’s parents were pioneer ranchers in the Fort Worth area. After having attended Fourth Ward Elementary School in Paris, she attended San Marcos Baptist Academy in San Marcos and Burleson College in Greenville. She received a bachelor of arts degree from Baylor University in Waco, master of arts degree from East Texas State University in Commerce, and attended the Chicago Conservatory of Music in Chicago. She was a principal at Arthur City School and taught school at Fourth Ward Elementary and at Paris High School. She served as the first guidance counselor at Paris High School, and continued in this capacity until her retirement in 1964. Mrs. Booth was a charter member of the Paris Music Study Club and a past president of that club. She served as president of District Eight Guidance Counselors and for several years served as Director of Paris Girl Scouts, which was her favorite charity. During World War II, she was a civilian director for the Ordinance Division, Camp Maxey. Later she served as Special Services Director at Biggs Air Force Field at El Paso. She was a member and former president of the New Era Sunday School class, First United Methodist Church. Survivors include one son, Lloyd W. Booth of San Antonio; one sister, Mrs. Minor Beavis of Paris; three grandchildren, Steffanie Booth, Todd Booth and Chad Booth, all of San Antonio; three nieces, Mrs. Richard Crawford of College Station, Mrs. James Wooten of Idabel, Okla., and Miss Jule Redwood of Dalls; and one nephew, Jack Redwood of Gladewater.”
