Information from funeral home: Laura Ann Blassingame, 93, of Paris, passed away Thursday, December 17, 2015. Bright-Holland Funeral Home scheduled services for 10:00 a.m. Friday, Dec. 18th, at the Open Air Chapel of Evergreen Cemetery with Patrick Cannon officiating. Mrs. Blassingame, the daughter of R. W. & Jewel Riley Chambers, was born Jan. 21, 1922, in Honey Grove. She attended school in Fannin County and graduated from high school in Pontotoc, OK. On Nov. 18, 1942, she married Jess T. Blassingame building 62 years of family and memories before his death on June 8, 2005. In 1949, she became a Waivered LVN working under the supervision of Dr. L. P. McCuistion at the Sanitarium of Paris. In 1952, she became licensed. She was among the first group of nurses to train at Parkland Hospital in Dallas to work in the new L. P. McCuistion Regional Medical Center ICU. She loved nursing, and her career spanned 41 years, retiring from L. P. McCuistion Regional Medical Center in 1990. She was a member of the American Nurses Association (ANA). Laura was an avid fisherman and a member of the Paris Bass Club. She loved her family, nursing, fishing and Evergreen Cemetery. Jess Blassingame’s family has been involved in overseeing the cemetery since 1900. In 1952, she and her family moved into the cemetery house and that is where Laura resided until her death. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Jess, four brothers, Billy, J. E., Richard and Bob, and by three sisters, Minnie Elizabeth, Nora and Juanita. Survivors include her son, Jim Blassingame & wife Phalia of Paris, grandsons, Wade Blassingame & wife Monica of Klondike and Mark Blassingame & wife Jackie of Cooper, great grandchildren, Aaron Blassingame, Callie Blassingame and Rachel Blassingame, one great great grandson, Walker Blassingame along with several beloved nieces & nephews and a host of friends. Casket bearers will be: Danny Sims, Brian Allen, Randy Brown, Aaron Blassingame, Mark Blassingame and Wade Blassingame. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Paris Evergreen Cemetery Foundation, 560 Evergreen Street, Paris, TX 75460.
