LAMAR COUNTY ECHO Oct. 27, 1983. 'HONEY GROVE -John Benjamin Black of Honey Grove died early Tue., morning at St. Joseph's Hospital in Paris following a short illness. Services set for 11 a.m. Thu., Oct. 27, at the First Presbyterian Church Honey Grove. Burial in Oakwood Cemetery in Honey Grove. Born in Honey Grove Nov. 13, 1916, a son of James Fletcher Black & Mable Walcott. He married Thelma Garner Sept. 16, 1945 in Honey Grove. Black had been an insurance agent & was a member of the McKenzie United Methodist church in Honey Grove. He was a veteran of WWII. Survivors include his wife of the home; a son, Walcott Black of Sherman; a brother, O.K. Black of Ft. Worth; a niece & 2 nephews. The family will receive friends at the residence, 701 Poplar Street in Honey Grove. The family wishes that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the First Presbyterian Church & the McKenzie Methodist Church in Honey Grove.'
