Notes

From an undated article on file at the Lamar County Genealogy Society, Paris: "Burk N. Black, 64, of 2901 Live Oak Drive, Mesquite, died Friday, May 12, 1972, in a local hospital. Funeral services were held Monday, May 15, in the Leverett and Steele Chapel, with the Rev. Ira Thompson and the Rev. Wayne Dunson officiating. Interment was made in the Meadowbrook Cemetery. The son of Herbert A. and Flora Jennings Black, Mr. Black was born November 18, 1907, in Sulphur Rock, Arkansas. He married Miss Daisy Hamilton in 1927. He came to Paris in 1923, and moved to Mesquite in 1968 where he was employed as a groceryman. Survivors include his wife; a son, Bobby Neal Black of Garland; a brother, Hughie Black of Paris; and three grandchildren." Submitted by Carol Campbell.

THE PARIS NEWS, Wednesday, May 17, 1972, p. 12: "Black Services. Funeral services for Burk Neal Black of Mesquite, who died Friday at St. Joseph's Hospital here, where held Monday at 10:30 a.m. at Leverett and Steele Memorial Chapel. The Rev. Ira Thompson and the Rev. Wayne Dunson officiated and internment was made in Meadowbrook Cemetery. Bearers were Bill black, James Winn, Norris McDowell, Jack Smith, Lovely Arnold, Ronnie Campbell, W. W. Stricklin, and Gerald Allen." Submitted by Tina Vickery.

From the record journal of Meadowbrook Cemetery; son of Herbert A. and Flora Jennings Black. Born in Sulphur Rock, AR., died in Paris, TX.
