THE PARIS NEWS-May 5,1968: Delta Funeral Home of Cooper has charge of services for Mr. Birmingham, which will be held Monday at 3 p.m. at Lake Creek Methodist Church by the pastor, the Rev. Raymond Butts of Enloe. Interment will be made in Evergreen Cemetery, Paris, nephews to be bearers. A retired farmer, resident of Delta County 64 years, Erasmus Enoch Birmingham was born at Plantersville, Miss., Jan. 22, 1888, his parents being Hudson and Lida Jane (Crim) Birmingham. Surviving are his wife, Lucy; two children: James Birmingham, Dallas, and Mrs. J.P. Jared, Rusk; and five other descendants. Also three sisters: Mrs. J.W. Frith, Dallas; Mrs. Arnold Herin. Pittsburg. and Mrs. Pearl Moore, Mesquite.
THE PARIS NEWS-May 5,1968: 2-CAR CRASH FATAL to ONE - A two-car head-on collision 12 miles south of Paris on State Highway 24 late Saturday morning fatally injured one man and left two couples hospitalized here. Killed was Erasmus Birmingham, 80, of Lake Creek, sole occupant of his 1952 Pontiac sedan. Taken to St. Joseph's Hospital were Byron Green, 24, of Crane, driver of the other car, a 1965 Ford Sedan, and his wife, Linda, 21, both listed in satisfactory condition. Also, Roy Pate, 30, and his wife, Peggy, from Sumner, both listed in serious condition. Randy Green, 2, was the only passenger not injured. The wreck occurred at approximately 10:30 a.m. near a highway fruit stand, according to investigating Highway Patrolman Larry Abshire. Abshire said the Green vehicle was going south when it collided with the Birmingham auto, heading north. Abshire reported that Birmingham slowed and turned left into the path of the Green auto.
