THE PARIS NEWS, Feb. 27, 2007: "Mattie Katherine Bills, 92, of Paris, passed away Sunday, Feb. 25, 2007. Funeral services are set for 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 28, in the chapel of Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home with Dr. Randall Perry and the Rev. Jim Semple officiating. Burial follows in Evergreen Cemetery. Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements. The family receives friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. She was born May 9, 1914, at the Gray's Hotel in Deport, to Elias Jefferson and Olive Chilottie Gray. Due to her father's blindness, Mattie left school early to go to work to help support her family. She married Daniel A. Bills on Oct. 3, 1931, in Hugo. He died Aug. 3, 1978. Mr. Bills served the citizens of Lamar County as Sheriff and later as the Chief of Police of Paris. Mrs. Bills was a loving mother and homemaker and was active in the First Baptist Church and its Adult VI Sunday school class. She was also a member of the 4 Leaf Clover Club and the Rebekahs. Her family would like to thank the caring staff of the Bee Hive Assisted Living Home for the loving care they provided for their mother for the past two years. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Opal Cotton; her brothers, Clarence and Sam Gray. She is survived by two daughters, Sarah Gambill and husband, Glen, and Annelle Harty and her husband, Bob; five grandchildren, Katherine Harty Noland, Julie Harty Kampfer, Robert Harty Jr., Daniel 'Danny' Gambill, and Gail Gambill King; 13 great-grandchildren, Amy, Trey and Daniel Kampfer, Matthew, Sarah, and Sean Noland, Robert Harty III, Jamie and Hunter Harty, Ashlee and Daniel Gambill, Katherine and Kendall King; one nephew, James David Cotton; one niece, Connie Cotton Brem. Serving as pallbearers are Danny Gambill, Rob Harty, Kim Noland, Pete Kampfer, Jeff King and James Cotton. Online condolences may be made to the Bills' family by visiting www.fry-gibbs.com"
