Information from the personal files of Elizabeth Booth & Maude Biard Smith: She was the first wife of John Gaines Biard who came to Texas by horseback, with his brother William Washington Biard in 1836. Both were single men. While in Texas they stopped in Clarksville, where they built the first church house in Clarksville. John was a stone cutter. Near a printing house in Clarksville is a large slab of stone with his name carved into it. The brothers returned to Alabama where Nancy Claudia Brackeen & John Gaines Biard were married. He came back to Texas in 1847, bringing his wife, & 3 children, Minerva, Henrietta & Matilda Frances, 'Fannie'. His sister, Minerva Jane Biard Stephenson & family came with them. Nancy soon died & John married Elvira Campbell Stallcup, widow of R. G. Stallcup. She was the mother of Mary Stallcup, who married Terrell Click. John Gaines Biard was born 20 Aug 1816 & died 12 Mar 1890. He & Elvira Jane were the parents of John A. b. 1850, Kate, Harriett 1854-1935, Janus Washington 1858-1949 & Elvira Biard.

Information from Martha Boone, weboones@cablelynx.com, 04/21/2014: Nancy Claudia Brackeen Biard was born 24 Dec 1804 and died 2 Jun 1848. She as the first wife of John Gaines Biard, married 17 Dec 1840, Limestone, AL.
