THE PARIS NEWS, undated article on file with the Lamar County Genealogical Society: "Mrs. J. W. T. Biard, 100, of 644 East Washington, died Saturday, March 18, 1978, in a local hospital.  Funeral services were held Monday in the Fry & Gibbs Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Raymond Armstrong and the Rev Julian T. Hendren officiating.  Interment was made in Evergreen Cemetery.  Edna Lucretia Braden Biard was born south of Paris in the Lime Kiln community on June 18, 1877, daughter of C. C. Braden and Mary Jane (Bowers) Braden. She attended Center Point, Lime Kiln and Green Dale public schools and Mrs. Richardson's Female Institute and Mary Connor College in Paris.  she taught school in Paris for several years.  She married J. W. T. Biard on January 5, 1898, who preceded her in death on September 29, 1965.  They lived in Biardstown before moving to Paris in 1920.  At the celebration of her 100th birthday last June, she received cards from President Carter, Governor Dolph Briscoe and Paris Mayor James Brunette.  A longtime member of the First Chritian Church, she was a former president of the Sallee Bible Class and had taught a number of Sunday School classes as well as serving as pianist.  She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and had served as its chaplin.  Survivors include two sons, John Willie Biard of Paris and A. J. (Jack) Biard of Shreveport, Louisiana; six grandchildren, Webb Biard and John Biard both of Paris, Billy Abshire of Dallas, Dr. J. R. Biard of Richardson, Mrs. Hal Culpepper of Shreveport, Louisiana and Miss Becky Biard of Austin; and nine great-grandchildren.  Pallbearers were Webb Biard, John Biard, James Rheudasill, Bill Abshire, Bob Jenkins and Ned Jenkins."
