THE LUBBUCK MORNING AVALANCHE (Lubbuck, Texas), Tuesday, December 30, 1930, p. 4: “W. R. BETTES IS TAKEN BY DEATH. Lubbock Business Man Victim of Pneumonia Attack Here Monday After Illness of Only Forty-eight Hours. Ill only 48 hours, W. R. Bettes, of the Bettes Oil and Tire company, on Tenth street, died unexpectedly at 3 o’clock yesterday afternoon following an attack of double pneumonia, which developed Saturday. Mr. Bettes had been a resident of Lubbock for several years and was widely known in business circles. For some time he had made his home at the Hotel Lubbock. Mrs. Bettes, who has been visiting in Fort Worth, was notified and will arrive this morning. His sister, Mrs. O. M. Hamilton, of Austin, also is expected to arrive today. Three brothers also survive. Funeral arrangement have not been completed pending arrival of Mrs. Bettes. It is believed that he will be buried in Paris, Texas, his former home, where his mother and sister are buried. Rix-Sanders funeral home are in charge of arrangements.”
