THE LAMAR COUNTY ECHO, 15 Jun 1989: 'Roger William Bestul, 54, Rt. 9, Paris, died Monday, 5 Jun 1989, at 11:31 p.m. at St. Joseph's Hospital. Services were held Friday, 9 Jun, at 2 p.m. in the Blossom Church of God with the Rev. Larry Bridges, the Rev. Joe Blackshear and the Rev. Earl Aikins officiating. Bright-Holland Funeral Home made burial in Union Grove Cemetery. Full military graveside rites were conducted. Mr. Bestul was born 27 Apr 1935 [sic], in North Dakota, a son of Lewis Thomas and Valerie Jacobson Bestul. He married Melba Davidson on 1 Jul 1963, in Upland, Calif. He was a member of the Blossom Church of God and the Disabled American Veterans. He served in the Marine Corps during the Korean War. Surviving are his wife; two sons, Ricky Bestul of Paris and Danny Anderson of Pattonville; two daughters, Stella George of Blossom and Vicki Chaney of Blossom; five brothers, Gale Bestul of California, Larry Bestul of California, Lawrence Bestul of Washington, Gregory Bestul of Dallas and Bruce Bestul of Blossom; two sisters, Sallie Bestul of Paris and Barbara Smith of Paris; and seven grandchildren.' (NOTE: Birth date in the heading does not agree with birth date stated in the obituary.)
Tombstone is inscribed, 'PFC Marine Corps, Korea.' On the same stone with wife, Melba Joyce Davidson.
