THE PARIS NEWS, 11 Feb 1968: “Russell G. Berry, longtime surveyor, who lived at 610-7th SW, died of illness Thursday at 5:15p.m. at McCuistion Hospital. He had been admitted there 10 or 12 days earlier. Services Monday at 10 a.m. will be held in Holy Cross Episcopal Church by the rector, the Rev. James W. O’Connell. Fry and Gibbs have direction of burial in Evergreen Cemetery. Mr. Berry leaves his wife, the former Miss Carolyn Wirfs, whom he married 10 Dec 1913; a sister, Mrs. W. T. Scott, now of Dallas; two nieces and a nephew, Mrs. J. R. Gill Jr. Waxahachie; Mrs. Peggy Guest and William B. Scott, Dallas. Son of the late Captain W.B. Berry, a Confederate veteran, and the former Johnnie Gordon, Russell Gordon Berry was born at Brookston, 14 Oct 1889. He attended school there and afterward, Bingham and Castle Heights military academies, training as a civil engineer. He formerly was associated with Walter Hicks, and worked in similar capacity at Camp Maxey, having been county surveyor about 10 years. He was a member of the Texas Surveyors Association."
