THE LAMAR COUNTY ECHO, 27 Nov 1986. 'Funeral services for C. Ellis Bennett of Roxton were conducted Saturday, 22 Nov, at the First United Methodist Church in Roxton with the Rev. Glen Blackmon and the Rev. Terry Atkinson officiating. Fry and Gibbs Funeral Home made burial in Restland Cemetery. Mr. Bennett died Thursday, 20 Nov 1986, at St. Joseph's Hospital. He was born 25 May 1910, in Blossom, a son of Milton and Berta Reeder Bennett. He attended Post Oak schools and married Maudie Lee Gentry on 26 Dec 1932. She died 5 Mar 1985. He married Betty Davenport on 12 Dec 1985. He worked for Babcock and Wilcox for 23 years before retiring in 1975. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church at Roxton where he had served as church superintendent and other capacities on its executive board. Surviving are his wife; two sons, Jerry Bennett of Roxton and Gilbert Bennett of Sulphur Springs; three daughters, Barbara LeFlore Herndon of Arlington, Hazel Owens of Texarkana, Ark., and Margaret George of Sulphur Springs; 13 grandchildren, including Donnie George of Navasota, whom he reared; seven great grandchildren; three stepchildren, Shirley Ann Johnson of Commerce, Gary Wayne Davenport of Dallas; three step grandchildren; one sister, Ruby Prater of Amarillo; and one brother, Woodrow Reeder of Paris.' Tombstone is inscribed, 'Ellis Bennett.'
