THE LAMAR COUNTY ECHO, 30 Jul 1981: "Funeral services for longtime Paris businessman Eugene M. Belew, 750 Pine Bluff, were held Monday, 27 Jul 1981 at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dick Atkinson and the Rev. Bob Hanson officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery, under the direction of Fry and Gibbs Funeral Home. Mr. Belew, vice president of Belew Music Co., died Friday, 24 Jul 1981 in Dallas. His family started Belew Finance Co here in 1926 and Mr. Belew opened his own company in 1947. In 1965, he opened Belew Music Co. Mr. Belew was born 8 May 1914 in Paris, a son of Thomas Evan and Stella Pearl Maxwell Belew. He attended Paris Junior College, John Tarleton College and Texas Christian University. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy as a flight instructor for foreign students. After discharge from active duty, he served in the U.S. Naval Reserve, retiring in 1967 with the rank of Lieutenant Commander. He helped organize the Naval Reserve Unit in Paris. He had been a member of the Rotary Club since 1939 and had been cited for 11 years of perfect attendance. He was also a member of Paris Masonic Lodge, Knights Templar and a former Eastern Star member. He was also a former member of the Jaycees, serving as secretary when it was organized here. He had served on the advisory committee of the horology department at Paris Junior College. Mr. Belew was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church serving as chairman on its board and as a teacher of the Couples's Sunday School Class. He married the former Gladys Emogene Bolin in Plainview on 6 Aug 1937. Surviving are his wife; a son, Thomas Eugene Belew of Paris; and two nephews, James Robert Price and Jack F. Price Jr. both of Dallas. He was preceded in death by a sister, Faye Belew Price, on 19 Jul 1937. Members of the Rotary Club and the Couple's Class of First Methodist Church served as honorary bearers. Pallbearers were Don McLaughlin, Richard Nafe, Dr. W.L. Kelley, Louis Williams, Dick Deaton, Gyles Norwood, Hal Rheudasil, Irwin McClanahan, Robert Parker and Raymond Dixon."
Tombstone is inscribed, "LCDR US Navy WWII."
