THE PARIS NEWS, Nov. 6, 1972: "Roy Beard, a former resident of Lamar County, who lived at 5326 E. Third in Tulsa, Okla., died Sunday at St. Francis Hospital there. He was a retired railroad employee. Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday in Moore's East Lawn Chapel in Tulsa with graveside services conducted by Gene Roden's Sons Funeral Home at Evergreen Cemetery in Paris at 4 p.m. Wednesday. Born Dec. 8, 1903, in Lufkin, he was a son of Joe Beard Sr. and the former Miss Thorne Alice Hanks. He married Miss Maude Burks, who survives, on Oct. 16, 1937. He was a member of the Boston Avenue Methodist Church in Tulsa, and its Married Folks Sunday School Class. He was a charter member of Tulsa Scottish Rite and member of the Eastgate Masonic Lodge, the Transportation Club, and was a past president of Delta Mu Alpha Transportation Fraternity, Oil Capitol Chapter No. 76. Other than his wife, survivors include a son, K. Lamar Beard of Tulsa; two brothers, Joe Beard of Shreveport, La., and Perry Beard of Lafayette, La.; and three grandchildren."
