THE PARIS NEWS, Wednesday, August 4, 1937, p. 10: “CRASH VICTIM’S FUNERAL IS HELD. Ira T. Baxter Killed In Plane Sunday. Funeral services for Ira T. Baxter, 18 year old CCC enrollee killed in a plane crash at Littlefield on Sunday was held Tuesday afternoon at Blossom, home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. George W. Baxter, the body arriving at noon. The service was held by the Rev. Charles Streetman, Baptist pastor at Blossom and the Rev. W. T. Ritchey, Manton-Fry funeral home having charge and burial being made at Blossom cemetery. Pallbearers were J. W. Daugherty, Travis Slusher, G. L. Skidmore, Virgil Tolbert, Benjie Brownlee and Marshall Herron. His parents and a sister survive. The youth was killed when a plane in which he and two others were riding with the owner, crashed Sunday at Littlefield.” Submitted by Debra Usry.

EL PASO HERALD-POST, El Paso, Texas, August 2, 1937, p. 7: “PLANE MISHAPS TAKE 21 LIVES IN SHORT TIME. Four Killed in In Africa, Three When Ship Falls in Bay. By INTERNATIONAL NEWS SERVICE. A series of airplane mishaps throughout the world today and yesterday took a toll of 21 lives. ... Four persons died when a barn-storming airplane motor failed northwest of Littlefield, Tex. The dead were O. V. Sims, Jr., 45 year old railroad conductor who was piloting the craft, two farmers, Orville Tabor, 27, and Vernie Hankins, and Ira T. Baxter, 19, a CCC worker. ....” Submitted by Tina Vickery.

AUSTIN AMERICAN-STATESMAN, Austin, Texas, Monday, August 3, 1937, p. 3: “Texas Airplane Wreck Kills 4 LITTLEFIELD, Aug. 2 (UP) O. V. Sims, Jr., 45, Slaton railroad conductor, and three companions were killed Sunday when Sims’ airplane crashed in a cotton field a mile and a half north of Littlefield. The three other victims were Ira T. Baxter, 19, Wellington enrolled at the CCC camp here; Orville Tabor, 27, and Vernie Hankins, farmers. Witnesses said the occupants were on a pleasure flight. All four occupants of the craft were killed instantly. Investigators said they could not tell what caused the wreck. The plane did not catch fire, indicating that the switch had been cut. The nose of the plane buried itself in the field and a tractor was called to pull the wreckage out of the ground, Baxter had been in the CCC camp here 13 days.” Submitted by Tina Vickery.

THE KILGORE NEWS HERALD, Kilgore, Texas, Monday, August 2, 1937, p. 8: “TEXANS DIE IN AIRPLANE CRASH LITTLEFIELD, Aug 2. (UP) -- O. V. Sims, Jr., 45, Slaton railroad conductor and three companions were killed Sunday when Sim’s airplane crashed in a cotton field a mile and a half north of Littlefield. The three other victims were Ira T. Baxter, 19, Wellington enrrolle[d] at the CCC camp here; Orville Tabor, 27, and Vernie Hankins, farmers. Witnesses said the occupants were on a pleasure flight.
